Salam,
The Australian Human Rights Commission’s second Perth Muslim Community consultation was held at UCIC Tranby hall on 25th February 2020. The Perth City Musallah Association Inc was honoured to host the Race Discrimination Commissioner Chin Tan and his team on their visit to Western Australia on their national fact- finding tour.
The Race Discrimination Commissioner, Chin Tan is undertaking a project to listen to and share the stories of Australian Muslims. He is holding national consultations with members of the Australian Muslim community about their needs and experiences of discrimination, Islamophobia and hate speech and their right to safely practice their religion. This project aims to build robust intelligence about the experience of Australian Muslims to inform the Australian Human Rights Commission’s work in promoting social cohesion and providing evidence for change.
We’re looking for community leaders, representatives from cultural groups, and Muslim organisations/companies. Please feel free to forward this email on to your networks. The benefit of this would be to have the opportunity for the community to advise the Australian Human Rights Commission on how they can use their position to help Muslims.
The Commission needs to hear the needs and experiences of discrimination, Islamophobia and hate speech and the right to safely practice our faith.
We’re also planning to hold a women’s only and students consultation, please let me know if there is anyone interested in this.
Thanks
Mobinah Ahmad
