Melbourne under coronavirus lockdown

This article has been published by 9News.

A man has been taken into custody after biting a police officer while attempting to flee one of the Melbourne public housing towers in lockdown.

Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said police were assaulted when the 32-year-old man tried to escape one of the Flemington public housing towers.
“There was an issue where that male tried to leave against instructions,” Comm. Patton said.
A fight occurred where the police were assaulted. That male bit one of the members and so he was taken into custody and is being processed for assaulting and resisting police as well as an attempted COVID-19 breach.”
Around 500 police officers are being deployed across the nine towers in lockdown per day, with Protective Services Officers (PSOs) also set to join patrols moving forward.
